Alumni and their sticks gather at Echo Falls GC
Todd Reichert ’01, Eric Shutt ’01, Nate Hill ’01 and Dave Enslow ’00 gather for a politically correct (beerless?) lunch. The 2011 Alumni Golf Tournament was blessed with great first-week-of-summer weather as 37 brothers, representing the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s gathered at Echo Falls Golf Course near Monroe.
Out of the field of 37, one foursome bested the rest with a score of 58 in the best ball contest—the talented quartet of Marty Paul ’94, Dan Staggs ’95, Darren Casey ’94 and Brian Hanson ’95. Taking other top honors were Chris Droz ’97 for his thundering, longest drive of the day and Keith Jeffrey ’97 for his laser-guided, closest to the pin performance. No prizes were awarded the day of the event; instead they will be presented to the winners at the annual Salmon Bake on October 28th.

The course was in fine condition and so were the brothers after a few lubricating beverages. Following play, the pack settled in for lunch, a check on everyone’s scores (with a few raised eyebrows), and announcements of the winners. A new, non-golf related award was also unveiled by Neil Doherty ’06. The Distinguished Volunteer Award was presented to Steve Ruttner ’79, Eric Lord ’96 and Jon Bruch ’99 (the annual organizer of the tournament) for their long-time service to the chapter and Alumni Association.
Neil Doherty shows the group the shiny, new Outstanding Volunteer AwardMake plans now to block out a day with your alumni brothers next June, where we are also working with our Wazzu brothers on a joint WA Alpha/Beta matchup. The Alphas are great guys; they just refuse to stop supporting a losing cause and wear far too much red. It should prove to be a very interesting competition!
