Chapter gains in popularity, achievements
This past year, WA Beta has continued to increase its presence on campus. We’ve maintained our high standards for grades with a 3.41 GPA for winter; in the top 15 among all SigEp chapters. And we just got our spring grades–a 3.44 making us #1 among all UW fraternities. Competing in the IMA football ?nals this year, we’ve continued to succeed in athletics as well. This year at the Greek Awards ceremony we were presented with the “Most Improved Chapter” Award and were ?nalists for “Academic Excellence” and “New Member Education.”
Our annual broom ball tournament between the four internal chapter “families”–Fancy Lads, Eastwoods, Machiavelli and Arrogant Bastards. The Arrogant Bastards won the competitionWith Collin Huggins and his recruitment chairs, coupled with Jack Johnson running the Balanced Man Scholarship again, we have great expectations for recruitment this summer and expect another class of 30 men. With our recent successes, we have ?nally reached a point where space is a problem. For this coming school year, eight seniors have locked down a live-out house less than a block away, increasing our capacity as a chapter.
We were very successful in our own philanthropy as well as external philanthropies this year. Mike O’Neal was awarded third place in AGD’s annual Mr. Greek philanthropy and Leon Hardman was awarded Hard Body in the annual Anchor Splash Flex off. SPE Karts, our annual philanthropy, continues to grow in terms of recognition and its impact on the community through our partnership with PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society). Greek involvement was at an all time high, with ten sororities enthusiastically participating in our Kart Race and fund raising efforts, and a crowd of hundreds attending our exotic car show on campus. Over ten million dollars in luxury and performance cars were on display in red square during our signature car show event.
In closing, I want to echo previous chapter presidents by saying thank you for your continued support of your undergraduate chapter!
HFF,
W Nolan Heitz,
Chapter President
