Weather gremlins try to dampen Salmon Bake spirit

Attendance expectations were high this year with over 80 alumni RSVPing for the “Bake”. However, on this October 28th night, nasty weather and resulting traffic snarls resulted in just 50-plus brothers walking through the Red Door for WA Beta’s annual Homecoming Weekend event.

Now a Salmon Bake tradition, alumni were greeted by Chi Omega hostesses and enjoyed happy hour, appetizers, and catching up with other brothers before sitting down to Steve Flanagan’s ’00 famous salmon dinner. Steve marked his 24th year with the chapter. According to our records, this ties Miss Mac’s “rein” as chapter cook. Expect a big turnout next year as we celebrate Steve’s quarter century of service to the chapter. With the house now back at capacity and others living on and off campus, the room was filled with brothers.  We even had a 1960’s era Phi Delt alum attend the dinner, father of a SigEp, who left quite impressed with the current state of the chapter.

Even though the turnout was lower than in recent years, we raised the largest amount of alumni contributions in some time. This was due thanks in part to Bryan Tomlinson ’98, who set up matching gift account with Microsoft, and the “collective” efforts of the hostesses. By the end of the night, $4395 was raised to support chapter scholarships and repairs.
